Caramelized Onion & Mushroom Tarts


Caramelized onions & mushrooms is definitely one of my all-time favorite combination, together with bacon they make an even more excellent dish.

Today, I made these little mushroom tarts as our dinner appetizers & they're a big hit among my boys. They love them.

These mushroom mixture can also be used in other dishes like pasta or bread. They taste so yummylicious I had to refrain myself for finishing up before serving.


 Step-by-Step Tutorial :

Pan fried the onions on the lowest heat, stirring constantly, for about 15-20 minutes, until the onions are caramelized.


Add the butter to the pan.

Add in the mushrooms, stirring constantly until they're soft, about 5 minutes.

Add in the thyme & give it a quick stir.

Add the stock, bring to a boil, & let it simmer until all the liquid has been absorbed.

Scoop the mixture into the pre-baked tarts, top with cheese & spring onion.

Bake in the pre-heated oven for 10-15 minutes. Serve immediately.

1 large onion, thinly sliced
250gm (about 1 box) of button mushroom, thinly sliced
3-4 cloves garlic, minced
1/4 cup chicken/ vegetable/ beef stock
1 tablespoon unsalted butter
1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
Seasoning : salt & pepper to taste
Garnish : spring onion, chopped
4 pre-baked tarts


Directions :
  1. Pre-heat the oven to 200C.
  2. Pan fried the onions on the lowest heat, stirring constantly, for about 15-20 minutes, until the onions are caramelized.
  3. Add the butter to the pan.
  4. Add in the mushrooms, stirring constantly until they're soft, about 5 minutes.
  5. Add in the thyme & give it a quick stir.
  6. Add the stock, bring to a boil, & let it simmer until all the liquid has been absorbed.
  7. Scoop the mixture into the pre-baked tarts, top with cheese & spring onion.
  8. Bake in the pre-heated oven for 10-15 minutes.
