Batik Cake

I first tasted a batik cake made by a friend at a playgroup few years ago, it wasn't just me, but all of us who ate it fell in love instantly, it's so delicious.

We were told that it's very simple & easy to make one as it's a non bake cake, all we have to do is to cook all the ingredients on the stove & let it sits overnight in the fridge to set, this indeed sounds amazingly easy to make, isn't it?

I then tried to make it for the first time for a party catering, & it was a success although I added too much of condensed milk by mistake & the texture of the cake was too wet, but still, it was a hit among the kids & they commented that it tastes like brownie, which, they thought it was.

Batik Cake

Ingredients :
1 pack of Marie biscuits (break into quarters)
1/2 cup cocoa powder

1/2 cup milo
1/4 cup sugar (adjust accordingly)
1 cup condensed milk
5 eggs
1/2 cup water
3/4 cup unsalted butter
1-2 teaspoons vanilla essence

Directions :

  1. Combine all the ingredients (except from Marie biscuits) in a pot, & cook on the stove.
  2. Bring the mixture to a boil & turn to the lowest heat, stir constantly until the mixture thickens up, about 15 minutes. Note : it's a must to keep stirring to avoid the mixture from burning.
  3. When the mixture turns into custard like texture, add in the Marie biscuits & stir well.
  4. Pour the mixture into a cake pan or any containers you like, press down & refrigerate for a minimum of 5 hours, or overnight.
