Chinese New Year Cookies - Monkey German Cookies ~ 可爱小猴子德国酥饼

Last Chinese New Year, I made the Sheep German Cookies, it was a big hit not only among the kids, but adults too.

This year will be the year of Monkey, of course there should be monkey German cookies too.

Using the same recipe, I added some cocoa powder to form a brown color dough.

Personally, I think these are easier to shape than the sheep cookies.

So, I hope you have fun making these little cutie, & have a very good Chinese New Year.

* Step-by-Step Tutorial *

Place the butter & sugar in a mixing bow.

Beat on medium speed until fluffy & light in color.

Stir in the flour, mix well.

The mixture will form into a soft dough.
Divide the dough into 2 portions with the ration of 1/3 & 2/3.
Mix in the cocoa powder with 2/3 portion of the dough, knead until combined.
Cling wrap the dough & chill in the fridge for 1-2 hours (so the shape can hold better).

Roll the chocolate dough into a small ball, press flat.

Roll 2 more small balls using the chocolate dough, press slightly & stick on the side to form as ears.

Press 2 chocolate chips inside the ears.

Roll 2 small balls & press flat with the cream color dough to form the eye.

Roll another ball & press flat as the face of monkey.

Stick on 2 chocolate chips as the eyes.

Lastly, roll a tiny nose with the chocolate dough to form the nose.

Use a 1/4 inch spoon or a toothpick to form the monkey's smiley face

Bake in the pre-heated oven for 20-25 minutes.
